Travels of the Starfire
I occasionally write about the misadventures of the intrepid (sort of) crew of
the salvage vessel MSV Starfire, sometimes featuring their bold feats of
opportunistically looting bravely rescuing stranded craft.
I don't really have time to write much about the Starfire anymore, so some of the stories here are incomplete. I used to serialize them on the Coldstone Chronicles, but that's now an ex-forum for practical purposes.
After Coldstone Chronicles died, I `rebooted' the Starfire continuity. The new version is, in my opinion, much better, but I've only written one complete story in the new continuity so far.
Old Starfire (On Coldstone Chronicles)
- TS: Insidae
- The crew encounters a cluster of abandoned ships, seemingly a dream
come true. But is there hidden danger? Duh, otherwise it would be a
pretty boring story. Despite the chronological primacy of this
episode, and its completeness, you might want to start with Waypoint or
Thrall.
Insidae Part 1, Insidae Part 2, Insidae Part 3, Insidae Part 4 - TS: Oracle
- The Starfire's quick-thinking crew manage to make it to a
habitable planet after the ship suffers a critical malfunction, but
now they're stranded. Unfinished. The planned outcome? They get away.
Oracle Part 1, Oracle Part 2, Alternate Version - TS: Waypoint
- The crew visits a spaceport on a rogue planet, and finds themselves
involved in the murder of a scientist who planned to give Amy some
vital information about her past. Never serialized on the Coldstone
Chronicles, and told from first person perspective. Unfinished, but
probably the best one of these. I plan to rework it for New Starfire.
Waypoint - Interview with G. Takahashi
- Transcript of the famous cyberneticist's debriefing following his
defection to the League. WARNING: Major spoilers for both
Starfire series. It does wrap up `Old Starfire' fairly well, though,
so I'm putting it here if you want to read it.
Interview - Starfire Writer's Notes and Plans
- The text file containing my notes about the Old Starfire universe.
WARNING: Contains spoilers, obviously, for that version, but since I'm
not planning on adding any more stories in the Old Starfire continuity,
it doesn't matter much. There are some things in common between both
universes, of course.
Writer's Notes, Planned Story
New Starfire
- TS: Thrall
- Delivering a shipment to the backwater agricultural world Akarn,
where sentient mechanicals are enslaved, the crew encounters a very
interesting android.
Thrall (Complete) - Writer's Notes
- Edited for reduced spoilers, these notes describe the new Starfire
universe. The second document explains the somewhat strange system
by which superluminal travel is possible.
